Local information about Kennington

Kennington, spanning the London boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth, is an attractive residential neighbourhood in South London.

Georgian architecture takes centre stage in the area, with beautiful terraced houses around garden squares. Social housing, some of which is now on the private market, accompany the period houses, ensuring that the property landscape has something for everyone. New-build flats, and some converted flatspace, exist throughout the area too.

For sporting fans, the area is significant as the home of the Oval Cricket Ground. The ground dates back to the nineteenth century and is home to the Surrey county cricket club, as well as frequently hosting international cricket matches. The ground has also hosted important football and rugby matches throughout its time, although it is no longer used for such purposes.

Although Kennington is actually only a short walk from central London, those coming from further afield are looked after by the Northern Line, running through Kennington tube station. There are many bus routes ready to take you deeper into south London, or north to central London, too.
